Bioinformatics Specialist.
As part of the TSL expanded mission and increased activities in bioinformatics and high-throughput functional genomics, we are seeking a Bioinformatics Specialist who will be responsible for assembling and analyzing data from the Illumina Genome Analyzer DNA sequencing platform.

The candidate will work closely both with other bioinformaticians and laboratory scientists to interpret and annotate DNA sequence data, with the goal of identifying novel innate immunity receptors from plants, and secreted proteins from pathogens. We are seeking an individual at any career stage, but candidates with a Ph.D. and even postdoctoral experience are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a background in computer science, molecular biology, computational biology, microbiology, plant biology or a related field. The candidate would be advantaged by an understanding of high-throughput genomic analysis and be familiar with widely used genomic databases and methods. Competence with bioinformatic scripting languages will be essential, fluency in Perl is particularly desirable, as is experience handling data from the Illumina platform or other high throughput sequence systems. In addition, the candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary will be within the UEA ALC staff Grade 7, at between £29,704 and £35,469 per annum and the appointment level will reflect the qualifications, skills, knowledge and achievements of the successful candidate. This is a full time position and will be available for two years in the first instance from 1st December 2009.
